Daysailor Emblems again

Postby Elk River » Thu Feb 25, 2010 9:31 pm

Hello All:

From Jan to Jun '07 there was a discussion pertaining to cuddy embems. Did anyone ever make molds and then emblems that could be purchased by folks that needed emblems? I do not have a complete emblem on either side to make a mold with and would be willing to purchase two emblems as I am refinishing my 1966 boat, sail #2332. If anyone has any information on this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

If nobody else comes forward, I believe that the emblems on my boat are preserved well enough to allow a mold to be taken. For me, the obstacles would be access to my boat and the technology to actually take a mold. There's little that can be done about the former for at least a few weeks, but perhaps someone is familiar with a useful technique for the latter.

Cuddy Emblems

Postby Elk River » Fri Feb 26, 2010 10:46 pm

Dear Greenlake:

Thank you for the reply. Perhaps you should have done what I did. I live at the head of the Chesapeake and day before the large snowstorm in early Jaunary, my wife bailed on me and went to visit her siblings in New England (where they didn't get any snow), so I moved our Daysailor from the yard into the garage where she usually parks. Hey, I needed to refinish the boat anyway... We are hoping to have it done enough, but not completed, to take to Key West in March. Again, thanks for the reply and hopefully someone who reads this that has made molds will also reply.

I don't know how to make a mold but my emblems are in good shape and I can get to them easily since it's in the garage. If someone tells me how to make a mold and reproductions I can make a batch or if it's not a home procedure I can ship them out as well.

P.S. have a good time in key west. I used to belong to the key west sailing club for years only so I could sign out their sunfish's. KC also sounded like he enjoyed his time in the upper keys.

Cuddy Emblems

Postby Elk River » Sun Feb 28, 2010 9:33 pm

Dear Baysailer:

Thank you for your reply. If you look back in the Forum entries from Jan to Jun '07, there are 2 or 3 ways to make molds from existing emblems. Someone even had photos posted of one that had been made.
After working on the boat most of the weekend, I am pretty sure that it is not going to make it to Key West this trip as the wood that the side coamings screw into are all rotted. The port side is all removed, starboard side has yet to be done. Photos to be posted soon. Rather than rush, I will wait and do a decent job of replacing them.
Again, thanks for the reply.
