unexplained hole

I recently bought a DS1 and am cleaning it up. after I took the bottom down to gelcoat I found this hole just behind the CB trunk. It doesn't go through, the boat was in the water and bone dry when I bought it. Has anyone ever seen this?

Some DS1's have a drain right aft of the CB trunk (lowest spot in the hull when the boat is sitting level on a trailer). Can be glassed over. To drain the boat via the transom drain instead, just elevate the trailer tongue a bit.
