Centerboard washer leak question

Postby wrmann » Thu Feb 09, 2006 2:57 pm

Are the rubber centerboard washer and handle located above, at, or below the water line while the DS I is moored? I plan on replacing the rubber washer prior to launching my DS I this spring but the boat will be kept at my dock on Lake Hartwell, Georgia. I'm worried that the rubber gasket might leak while I'm away. Right now the boat is upside down while I'm working on the bottom and I can't get get a feeling about the level of the washer.

I think the pivot point is right at the waterline. I've tried taking out the handle while afloat and found plenty of water seepage when I loosened the screws.

If you use some petrolium jelly and tighten the screws, you shouldn't have a problem.

below waterline on my boat which is a DS II, by about an inch and a half. I remember this from when I removed the cb last fall for some repairs.
