Hey all:

Let me present my newly-renovated boat:

Not as spiffy as some of the other renovation projects I've seen here, but just fine for me. I think I lucked into the nicest color I've seen on these boats. I varnished the coamings and virutally rebuilt parts of them, cleaned up the floorboards, replaced lots of the old rigging, did minor fiberglass repair, etc. etc.

Now after a couple of trips out:

I'm beginning to be able to put all the great advice I've gleaned here into practice and it's making a lot of sense.

Wow! Looks great Carlos! Nice scenery at the horizon...reminiscent of this area (NH) Are the sails original? That is one item that I will need to replace before I get to do much sailing!

Not sure about where to look for those...but should be able to sail in light air without too much trouble.

Color is great...similar to mine, but much lighter...a real look at the '70's

I like the color of your boat - reminds me of a canoe.

I'm pretty sure the mainsail is original. I can't tell if it's in okay shape, so-so shape, usable but poor shape - whatever. A sailing friend said it was okay, and since I'm learning to sail it's probably better to subject a sail that's on the way out to my kind of abuse - "Hey! Where's that rope? Everything's flappin' around!" Next summer I'll invest in some decent sails after these have been flogged to death.

As to the scenery - that's North Idaho, which does look like the North Country a lot. We have a summer cabin in the Adirondacks, near Ticonderoga. I have always noted the similarities between the areas. Of course out here we don't have the proliferation of deciduous trees, but the mountains appear to be the same shape and age and general height.

Also, here we won't get the crushing humidity and swarms of insects like back East. That also means we're lacking in fireflies, alas, something I grew up with.

Looks awesome. You are going to have to bring it to Eugene and race with us. Memorial Weekend regatta here. and we are hosting the Pacific Coast Championships in Mid August. would make a great vacation.

Coming to Eugene is not out of the question. It's 5-6 hours to Portland from here, so that's what - another 2?

I'm tied up Memorial Day Weekend, and our family usually heads back east for much of August, but if we're back mid-August it'd be fun to come down and hang with the big dogs. I'd love to learn more about this boat from other DS enthusiasts. I assume there's beer involved...

Or maybe I could hop down at some other point in the summer. I bought this thing to trailer around, after all.
