Hull floor paint

Postby Kevin F » Mon Jul 24, 2006 8:05 am

I am in the process of "cleaning up" a a 72 DS 1, and need a recommendation on the paint to use on the inter hull floor. I have removed the original teak floors to find the condition of the inter hull surface fairly good but it needs to be painted since the original in flaking off in several areas. I will be also going some minor fiber glass epoxy repairs prior to the repainting. My experience is only with boats with the cockpit floor which are part of the deck like the DS 2. Any experience?

Dont repaint unless you really must. My $.02 worth. end result was more trouble than the project improved the appearance.
More Slippery, and doesnt hold up as well. So, it needs to be redone every two years, or it looks as bad as it started out with the more durable original.

I recommend Petit Easy-Poxy. You can also add a texturing agent to the pain to improve grip. The Easy-Poxy holds up well underfoot and comes in many colors. Good luck.

On my O'day DS I there was a lot of flaking of the old paint when I got the boat. I wire brushed and sanded it down and repainted with a light blue porch and deck enamel. Two coats worked fine, and the light blue was easy on the eyes and looked with the red hull. Porch and deck enamel is cheap and works fine (this is pretty much what it is for). And I hate putting in the non-skid stuff which seems like a lot of bother in a small boat and harder to refinish in the future.
