beam measurement at thwart?

Postby calden » Tue May 23, 2006 9:33 am

Hey all:

I'm looking for the beam (gunwale to gunwale) measurement at the point on the boat where the thwarts are.

The original thwarts that came with the boat were rotting and split at the screws, so I made new ones. I simply duplicated their length and the location of the attachments, including the fact that they don't quite reach from the seats inward to the centerboard housing, falling short by about 1/2". Now I'm thinking that they should actually butt up against the housing, meaning that the gunwales ought to be a little closer together.

The fact that they are too far apart is the reason why the supporting tabs are coming loose!

So if someone has nice, intact, DSI with original thwarts jammed nicely into place against the centerboard trunk, please measure your gunwale-to-gunwale beam right where the thwarts are. I can then check this measurement against what I have and squeeze things up a bit when I put in a new thwart support.

Thanks in advance,
Carlos

Anyone? I too am replacing my thwart braces and would love to know this measurement before I cut this piece of wood.

I have enough for two sets. I'll post one up in the for sale section, when it is ready.

Thanks
