I've read alot on this forum about drain plugs in the transom or the floor at the transom. Our DS1, however, has a threaded hole just aft the CB case. She's older (#766) and I guess I'd like to know what was in there originally. While I'm sure I can find something to keep her afloat, and I'm not trying for 100% originality, if anyone knows what kind of plug was originally there I'd really appreciate a reply.

Hi: I have a 1966, DS I, with the same drain. It looks to me that it is some sort of brass bolt. (do not know if that is what you call it). I would contact DR Marine and ask exactly what it is and he probably knows the size also. (drmarine.com) Other than that it would just be to find/purchase a couple of bolts that look as if they are the appropriate size and thread and see if they fit. I have only had mine off once and decided I would just keep it on and tight and not use it to drain the boat.

My DS1 also has a small drain hole aft of the CB. It has a small threaded brass plug (NPT- national pipe thread... ie tapered, so it will be leak free when tight.) I'm also sure a nylon threaded plug would work as well.

You should be able to get either at any good hardware store with a decent plumbing section. I'd recommend getting a couple in case you lose one at the worst possible time.

I have #769. Where are you? I got the boat in Chicago and sail in Wisconsin. I just put in a small black rubber plug. Just a smaller version of the plugs in the seats. What set-up did you have for the main sheet? I do not have shelves in the cuddy, nor do I have "thwarts" connecting the CB housing to the seats. I'm thinking my boat was built 1959 or '60 and have been trying to pin this down.

I don't have tharts either. I also inherited the boat without the floors so I orignally assumed that the tharts had also been chucked, but since have noticed that there are no provisions for them in the seats, ie: no depression. conclusion is that these boats didn't have them. at all. anyone know?? as for mainsheet handling I've got a swivel block/camcleat thing on the cb case...Is this what you mean? also molded in eyelets for the traveller in the rear deck just forward of the transom. oh, yes, I'm in the Philadelphia burbs.

No place for thwarts on Rolias either. Is your CB housing reinforced for the block and cam? Most that I have seen have a molded "platform" to mount the block. However, when I got my boat, the only fitting for the mainsheet was a jam cleat screwed to the aft edge of the CB housing. No reinforced platform.

hey rolias, I'm not sure about the reinforcing but there must be a bit of a flat space for the swivel to sit on. (I can't look at the boat right now, but I'll check later). I also have a bronze cleat mounted vertically on the CB case aft, not a cam, and it looks like original equipment. I don't think there have been many or indeed any modifications to this boat, sort of a time capsule. Sounds like we have very similiar boats, I guess O'day made small changes every year or so. Stay in touch.
