DS1 Manual

Postby mfeldman » Sun Oct 10, 2004 4:50 pm

I've scanned a copy of a 1966 DS1 manual entitled "Day Sailer, OSPRAY and JAVELIN RIGGING INSTRUCTIONS" and posted it at http://home.comcast.net/~mafeldman/ds1/ds1man.pdf. Because the manual was in very poor shape (as you'l see when you look at the scanned phots), I used some OCR software, imported it into Word, and formatted to look like the original. The results, in terms of layout are fairly accurate, but not exact. I've proofread it pretty carefully but I might have missed some places where the character recognition was incorrect.

If anyone catches anything glaringly wrong, let me know and I'll fix it.

Great Job Mike!

Mike, all I can say is THANKS! I accomplished the refurb of my DS1 without the benefit of a manual, but it sure would have been easier if I'd had a copy. Since the "real" manual supports the work I did I feel vindicated! Would you mind if I also posted this on my web site so folks have double the chance of finding it?

As to typo's, all I found was on the "OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION" page. In the second paragraph under "Floatation tank plugs-" I believe the OCR software added some punctuation and misread a "u" for a "y". It should read:

If the hull is damaged, due to abuse, you can repair it yourself using a kit available through your dealer.

(Funny, how about damage due to accident?!)

Good work Mike, we all appreciate this!

Thanks, Mike, for the '66 manual. Mike Boone: How about posting both DS1 and DS2 manuals on the home page?

Postby Bob Hunkins » Sun Feb 06, 2005 12:28 pm

Mike,
Feel free to copy the Rebel/Spindrift owners manual from my site and include it with the other owners manual. Great idea to have them all available together here.

Thanks for the PDFs guys, I've posted them here:

http://forum.daysailer.org/tech_ds1man.php

Those are both big downloads...it might be nice in the future for someone to HTML-ify it.

Precision DS 1 Manual

Postby Onyme » Mon Mar 13, 2006 3:24 pm

While we're on the subject of manuals, any copies of the Precision DS 1 manual floating around out there? If not, any suggestions as to which other manufacturer's manual might be closest?
