centerboard release question

Hello again.

It's great to have a forum to go to for DS answers. In cleaning up my newly-purchased DSI in preparation for an outing tomorrow, I tried lowering the centerboard. Either the handle mechanism is VERY stiff or there's a way to release a catch, and I can't figure it out. I see that on the other side of the handle mechanism is what appears to be a lug sticking out - is this a catch? Do I depress it? Push it starboard/port?

Thanks,
Carlos

Hey Carlos,
My centerboard is held in place by a pin/hole set up in the upper aft portion of the trunk. Once the pin has been pulled the board lowers quite easily. My boat is not OE I'm sure. It is also 1962 vintage...

Hi Carlos:
I have a 1966 DSI - push the lever forward a little and the catch should swing out of the way. Then you should be able to pull the lever down to the horizontal position which lowers the centerboard.
