Yet another hull number question

Postby dsheer » Thu Apr 06, 2006 8:55 pm

The title says the boat was built in 1965, the number on the sail is 186. From reading the posts, I don't think those jive. I cannot find a plate anywhere that has any numbers on it. Anything else I can do to figure out the hull number?

Thanks

Dan

Mine has a small metal plate (2'X3" approx.) riveted to the forward bulkhead, low and centered, just above the keelson.

My boat was built in 1965 too. It has a small metal plate rivited into the bulkhead at the front of the cuddy cabin, just below the center part between the two locker openings. My number is 1868, so probably the 186 on yours is a partial number.

Earlier in the year (or late last year) I posted looking for boats around the same hull number, If you find out you are close, perhaps we can talk.

Good luck!

Found it

Postby dsheer » Tue Jun 13, 2006 10:37 pm

My mystery is solved. It took the setting sun shining through my mainsail off of Fort Carrol in Baltimore harbor to illuminate the faint shadow of the outline of the missing digit. It is a 6. That makes the winning boat number for tonight -- 1866. So, JPClows, you must respect your elders (boats that is). And the final question is -- who has the one in the middle?

Congratulations! Glad to hear it. I had a feeling you were close. I'd love to get our boats together to compare them sometime. I'd also like to find the one in the middle!

What has me confused is that someone else on this site was saying that he has a 1965 too, and his number is 17 something. There must have been a lot of DS's made in that year!

Mine is 1653, kinda close. Go look at the calden photos for some nice shots.

Hey, glad to hear of another 1965 out there. Mine is younger at #1970.
Are your masts the gold anodized, or silver? I'm trying to figure out if mine has been updated. I'm still in the middle of repairing my gooseneck.

Mine's a 1966 with class #2303...so they were building 'em fast and furious!
Mine has a non-anodized hinged mast with a mast-jack on a movable foot. No Turnbuckles, but it sure is easy to get set...15 minutes from ramp to windward!

My mast is silver. It looks more or less original,(kind of beat up, no taper at the top, and the tangs for the old jumper stays were still there when I got it {since removed} as well as the bracket for the old triangle jumper spreaders,) but someone added a mast hinge at some later date. It too has the adjustable screwtype mast step just like Bob's. I replaced the stays a few years ago, and put in turnbuckles. I leave my mast up most of the summer, so I don't have to worry too much about the up and down stuff.
