Okay, I've decided to revive this topic. Because, I at least have one answer to my inquiry. When I took the floorboards out of my boat last fall I noticed that the stringer on the port side had been neatly cut about every 18 inches. Ah ha! That explains some of the flexibility! Of course, I turned the floorboards over to look and found that someone had replaced the "feet" of the flooring with aluminum angle brackets and they rested neatly on the stringer. Or, neatly in the cuts of the stringer.
Part of my spring preparation for this year will be to repair the stringer and replace the "feet" on my flooring.
I sure am thinking a lot about sailing now that the weather has turned a little warmer!
