I am looking to buy a daysailer1 and set up up for competitive racing. Is there any information or general opinion as to the best years/builders to look for? Thank you.

This may be a very subjective subject.

Most winning boats don’t appear to fall into a particular year or builder category. Hulls although shaped the same do have differing reenforcements from one manufacturer to another but that also doesn’t show any pattern when it comes to race results. Often there are differences even within one manufacturer.

More posts will follow. I would contact Cape Cop Ship Building and get their opinion on this also. They offer a new DSI (has the attributes of a DSII) but may have some historical info on the optimum DSI.

There are 2 fleets on Cape Cod, one in Orleans and one in Chatham. Last year's nationals were held at the Chatham Yacht Club. You might find it helpful to contact these folks and maybe look some of the boats over.

In my opinion. The best hull came from McGlaughlin in 1989 or 1990. They are rare. McGlaughlin only got to make 12 or 13 boats before Sunfish/Laser got the molds. Years ago we had two of them in our area and with a good sailer they where very tough to beat. Good Luck with your search.
