Boat is restored and underway

Postby Genia-Bob-DS » Tue May 31, 2011 10:36 pm

Hi all, thanks for your comments. Our DSI is finally underway, all major painting is complete, minor touches to go.
Best of all we were under sail on Memorial Day, perfect weather, nice easy breeze to get the best crew acclimated and ready for the season.

Congrats on getting her in. Always a good time.

Nice going on the swim noodles- how do they feel?

We considered doing that, but thought they might not be all that secure. Instead, we made a few pads using a 16 inch long piece of 1x6 with a foam pad and cloth cover, and screwed a couple of rubber-covered cup hooks into the back. They hook right over the coaming and are easy to move side to side when tacking. Worked great last season, we'll see if they hold up for another.

Genia-Bob-DS,

How did you apply the Bilgekote paint? And how many coats did you go with?

ctenidae, the noodles were my wife's idea and they are very comfortable. They stay on just fine, be careful wen slicing one side that you do not cut into the other. if you cut into the opposite side they split very easily

cambo105, I used a hand scrubber on the old paint, lots of bleach diluted with warm water. lightly sanded with 220 grit paper, wiped down with 333 brushing liquid. Rolled on one coat a section at a time and used blue rustoleum sprayed into a cup, barely dipped the tip of a tooth brush in the blue paint and flicked the brush to get the blue splat effect for texture and to break up the color
