Just took posession of my new to me DS1, 1961 vintage. Had a DS2 a few years ago but #### happens. This boat seems to be all original, boom crutch, floorboards, stainless motor mount and still crisp sails. I'm the proud second owner. Fred

Sail # on this is 946 other # looks like 5680 on the brass plate on the rear coaming under the boom crutch. Bought by original owner at Reed's in Minnesota in 1961, been in the family since new. Has both upper and lower spreaders. Lookin' good so far. Will try to post a couple of pics when I get home. Fred

Update

Postby metalbender » Thu Aug 23, 2012 10:51 am

A little update on my new to me boat. The po sent me a copy of their bill of sale, turns out they were the second owners. It was purchased by them as a used boat in 1963. Just changes the second owner status. Picked up a new Zuki 2.5 4 stroke yesterday. Thought about electric, cheaper but heavier and not convenient. Also from reading prior posts , a bit shy on power in critical situations. Fred

update

Postby metalbender » Wed Sep 05, 2012 10:11 pm

Another little update. Got the spinnaker in the mail to-day. The po had it at another location but it came to me in the original Boston Yacht Sail bag, just like the main and jib. Have to do a dry run to check the rigging. Hope to put it in the water before freeze up.

Got all the bits I ordered from Duck works also the mast hinge from Rudy but can't work on the boat, had foot surgery to day. Will be unable to do any work for a while. Doing the noodles, transom drain, jib cam cleats, spinnaker block, cheek blocks for the sails and of course the mast hinge. Also picked up a set of boat trailer rollers with brackets off a local "Buy and Sell "for a shore station ramp. As far as I heard from some locals there is only one other sail boat on the lake where I have my trailer. Fred

From the pictures, yours looks exactly like ours (except the hardware). Our hull number is 6555, sail 1001, and we're pretty sure she's a late (?) '61.
