Need a DS1 Centerboard

Postby drw » Mon May 13, 2013 7:35 pm

Does anyone have a DS1 centerboard for sale? Or, where can I find information on the dimensions of the board so I can build one. All I have left is the stub attached to the board control handle. Thanks, Dave :?

Well, that does not sound like it was a good situation. Also, welcome to the forum!

You can purchase new center boards from Cape Cod Shipbuilding or D&R Marine which you can find links on this package http://forum.daysailer.org/links.php . Also, there is an article From the DaySailer Quarterly for building a centerboard here http://forum.daysailer.org/pdf/qtr_buildcb.pdf .
The newest design centerboard which has the best foil shape and the best performance is the one from Cape Cod Shipbuilding. The Association commissioned the design, tooling, and then contracted Cape Cod Shipbuilding to make these. I'm not sure how to get in touch with the guy that makes Water Rat foils, but I believe his are among the best, also.

The official measurements can be found here http://daysailer.org/pdf/dsbylaw3.pdf. If you enjoy building, build your own, it's going to be miles better than a stock one. If you enjoy sailing (for performance) and have the money, purchase one. You probably can't beat the results of the best professional one, not on first try anyway.

You can also try...what used to be Phil's Foils. They changed their name but I think the address still works. They built mine and did a great job.

Check also with Cape Cod Shipbuilding. A new board is $450 and the same shape as the Waterat boards. At one time they had some left over Sunfish-Laser shaped boards that are new for $350.
