Hello,

I am a new O'Day Daysailer I owner. The previous owner did some "creative upgrades" to the mast support structure on the boat (see the attached images). I am hopeful that someone has information/plans/drawings/specs for how the mast was originally positioned/supported in the boat. Any info, preferably with pictures, would be great. Thanks in advance.

You will most likely find a number of photos that show mast supports.

There seems to have been a cuddy deck reinforcement to make it unnecessary to have a compression post. That could work, and if it does, there would be no need to change it. (If the deck flexes as you tighten the stays, that might require work).

The point of all that wood on top of the cuddy escapes me completely.

Based on the pictures in the galleries, it looks like they also leveled the floor hiding the substructure and the normal compression post mount. All that wood seems to be what they expected to hold the bottom of the mast in place. The is no other structure there. How long is the mast normally, I'm worried they cut it.

Is this a DS1 or a DS2?

Daysailer I I believe. The opening from the cockpit area to under the cuddy deck goes all the way to the edge like the daysailer I pictures I've seen.

It's a little difficult to tell from the photos, but I don't see anything familiar in the structure that would indicate that it is an O'Day DaySailer. Are you sure that it is an O'Day DaySailer?

Well, that's what it was sold to me as. There are no markings that I could find. How could I find out for certain?

There were boats made by other companies that were very similar. If you posted more photos I think we'd be able to tell you. The cockpit area will be the easiest for identification. If you were to take a picture from the stern that showed most of the cockpit up into the cuddy and another from the side that showed the cockpit including the centerboard trunk, the seats, and the rear deck. That should be enough for us to tell whether it is an O'Day.

I was wondering if it was a O'Day Day Sailer also. The cuddy cabin resembles an American Fiberglass Corp (AFC) "Discoverer 18". That boat steps the mast on top of the cuddy cabin and doesn't have a compression post inside the cuddy cabin. I used to have a AFC American 16 and it was similar to the pictures except with a blockier cuddy cabin.

Looking at it I think you have an American Fiberglass Corp. (AFC) Discoverer 18.

I found a couple pictures of a AFC D-18 mast step repair on the Yahoo forum for the AFC boats http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AMERICANFIBERGLASSOWNERS/ . I had an AFC American 16 before I found my Day Sailer. These pictures may help answer your original question concerning the mast step. Dwyer probably sells this mast step. It appears in the pictures that a wood mounting base is being glassed in where the original step was located. The mast step was then attached to the wood base.
