Well it's 55 degrees down here today and I am bundled up like an arctic explorer. I have some free time at last and have started work on the newest member of our fleet.
I've got her off the trailer and flipped over in the shade of a big ol mahogany tree.
I've started sanding and removing the old bottom paint. I am wondering what type of paint I should use below the waterline?
My plan is to keep her on the beach behind the house most of the time rigged and ready so she won't be sitting in the water.
Do I need to mess with a true anti fouling type paint?
Thanks again for the great resource.

Whatever antifouling you use be certain to fair the dings and blisters and apply an epoxy Barrie coat first

If the hull is in the water only while you are sailing, you don't need AF. Marine growth usually isn't found much above the tide/surf line. In fact, you don't even need a proper bottom paint, if you truly "dry"sail your boat. (If you want to be able to anchor over the occasional weekend, you might need bottom paint that is rated for immersion, but if this isn't every weekend, you may not need AF)

Appreciate the feedback.
It was kind of a silly question when I look back on it.
Yeah. Fairing. Lots of fairing. But this thing looks pretty good considering she is 10 years older than me. Using west 407 and making her all smoove.
I've used rust oleum marine on a couple of other boats and I think I'm going to mix up some old school seafoam green for the hull. I have a long way to go but I have big plans for this little boat.

Well it's about time I updated this thread. Made some good progress on my little boat and thought I would share.
Me and a large buddy flipped her over onto a pair of sawhorses and I began the process of removing about 8 layers of bottom and hull paint.
Here we are at the halfway point..

Nasty work. This is what I look like covered in bottom paint.

After I got her down to glass I discovered a poorly done patch about 5" up from the waterline at about the halfway point. Also found a large damaged area on the transom where someone in her past hung an outboard bracket with no backing.
Ground out both places and fixed them right.

Transom damage ground out...Image

And the finished repair faired and ready for paint...

The whole transom was a tad soft so I beefed it up with 2 layers of roving and 3 layers of 6 oz. it is much more solid now.

While she was upside down I addressed the cuddy roof and deck. There was some damage around the hole for the mast and the whole thing would deflect and make horrible noises when I stood up there. No bueno.
I fixed the damage around the mast hole with more roving and 6 oz and glassed in ribs I made from
1 1/2 schedule 40 PVC. Turned out great, added a lot of stiffness and not much weight.

After...

That's all I got for now, gonna be real busy doing this for the next couple of months...

It's lobster mini season down here and I've been avoiding the onslaught by working on our little boat to avoid the craziness on the water.
Since my last post I have painted the hull. Black bottom paint, sexy sunset red bootstripe, and seafoam green hull.
It turned out really nice.

I worked over the trailer, bearings, lights, moved the axle forward to accommodate dry launching, and totally changed the bunks to provide better support to the hull and make dry launching easier.

I got the little tohatsu outboard running great. Carb rebuild and a new impeller and she starts first pull.

Repaired and faired the centerboard and rudder components.

We flipped her onto the trailer yesterday and here she sits as I work on the topsides.
