Went looking for a mast upgrade, got a new boat

NE sailing season winding down and I have been looking on Craigslist for an old boat (cheap) with a keel stepped tapered mast to replace the tabernacle mast set up on my 1993 SLI DS1.

Saw a listing for this really nice and restored DS1, #2444 from '66, went to look at it, and ended up towing it home. A lot of nice work has been done on the boat, 1/8 inch stays, the trailer is in great condition, 3 year old Intensity sails, etc.

After two days of having #2444 in the driveway, going through it all, I am now thinking that in the spring I will sell the SLI boat and keep #2444.

Some pictures attached, more to follow

Wow, what a gorgeous boat! Congratulations!

It looks to my unqualified eyes to be race-ready. I've seen similar DSIs in the hands of some very good sailors at Morro Bay, and they can really move. Happy bow waves to you!

Very nice.

Can you add both boats to the DS1 design changes spreadsheet and the unofficial hull index? Only if you want, but it's always good to have more entries.

GL - added info on both DS boats to spreadsheet.

Interesting for me to see the similarities and differences of these two DSI boats made 27 years a part. I'll soon have them both in the drive way it will be easier to look & compare. My initial take away after a couple of days is that there is real beauty in the simplicity of # 2444 and it will be very fun to sail.

It as hard to get a good picture of the name plate on bulkhead, needed to take two photos.

Alan - yes boat is certainly in "to be sailed ready", but needs some add ons / enhancements to be "race ready", e.g., there is no rigging nor hardware for a flying a spinnaker. There is a sheave on the mast for the halyard, and a very old spinnaker that came with the boat.
