Outboard motor

Postby Relentless » Sun Dec 29, 2019 10:19 pm

I was looking back at some previous posts and still have some questions.
I am looking at buying a 2.5 HP Mercury 15” shaft.
Is the shaft long enough?
I measured from top of where it will mount to the water line and it is about 15”
I see it weighs 38lbs which seems light.
What is best to get?

I use a2.5 Yamaha 20 inch long shaft which weights 42 lbs. No problems with the engine, starts on the second pull. With a short shaft you might have a problem with cavitation in choppy waters. The prop might come out of the water? I think my long shaft was about $30 more than a short shaft.

Check on the price for 2.5 Tohatsu . They make 2.5 for Mercury same engine just a different name on it. John
