Jib Furler

Postby Guest » Thu Feb 20, 2003 8:19 am

I would like to add a jib furl system to my 1969 Day Sailer 1. Does anyone have any experience with furlers? Recommendations? Thanks

I don't have experience with jib furling on my DS, but on our larger boat (CAL 21), we have a CDI (Cruising Design) Flexible Furler and LOVE it! CDI makes one that will fit a DS and D&R Marine (as well as many Sailmakers) sells these. The CDI is a luff-extrusion type furler, but was designed for trailerable boats and will work fine. O'DAY made a roller-furling jib standard equipment on the DS III, this was a wire-luff type furler, and was set a few inches aft of the forestay. The CDI will allow limitted reefing, the wire-luff furlers will not. The CDI will cost about $200-300, the wire-luff furling gear will set you back $150 +/-, add jib modifications to either price.
