Trailer refurbishing/painting

Forgive me if this subject has been posted elsewhere, but I was curious if anyone had tried the following....

I'm in the process of rebuilding a Cox trailer. One of the things I'm thinking of doing is painting the trailer with "Herculiner," which is primarily used for lining pick-up truck beds. I'm thinking that the coating will not only protect the trailer, but also give it a good look.

Has anyone on the forums tried this as well? And if so, did you apply the Herculiner directly to the trailer (after scoring the metal with the abrasive pad included in the kit) or did you first prime the trailer, then score the primer, then apply the Herculiner.

Looks like nobody tried Herculiner before.

I'd suggest you google for that - there may be automotive forums where people have experience with that.

It would appear so. After doing some research and consulting folks who've used the product for their trucks, I think it'll work out. Now all I need is a couple of dry days. I'll try to post pictures when the project is completed.

I am looking to rebuild my tariler (also a COX) and I am wondering where you purchased parts. Many seem to be interchangable between trailer brands, but I want to get a new set of springs and an axle and the I am having trouble finding springs that match the originals.

There are people who custom build springs. Unfortunately, the one place I know of isn't in your area. Ask around in trailer parts stores, perhaps they can refer you to someone locally.

GreenLake is right about this. I wasn't sure if it would come up, but just doing a Google search for "springs" plus my city brought up more than one custom manufacturer. I remember having one of these places make springs for the front end of an ancient pick up truck years ago and I was surprised at how affordable they were - no different than if I had purchased stock springs from the shelf in some parts store (even though I couldn't because of the trucks age).

I would do a search and give them a ring - see what they say. You will probably need to bring the trailer to them for them to give you any sort of estimate because generally these places make stuff for heavy duty trucks and will not be familiar with your trailer - but they have the stock materials and can pretty much make anything you might need in terms of springs - most of the places around here also do axles - you never know, but maybe they can do that as well.

I'm going to need to get a new hub for mine - or I might need a new axle as well - no matter what I do, it throws grease due to wear. I have no idea what the manufacturer of my trailer is though.
