vang attachment point

Hey all:

When I retrofitted my mast for hinge stepping, I had to move the bail where the vang was attached. The bail had been right at the point where the mast was cut, and I moved it upward by a couple of inches.

This has made the angle of the vang, from the mast attachment point to the boom attachment point, pretty shallow, and I'm wondering how much pull I'm really getting.

I'm thinking of putting a vang attachment bail on the mast UNDER the cabin deck, maybe a foot below the deck, to increase the vang angle and give me more downward pull on the boom. I've yet to see a vang attached that far down, and I'm thinking there may be a structural reason NOT to do this, especially with a hinged mast.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance,
Carlos
