where to attach the new spreaders...

Postby calden » Mon Sep 11, 2006 9:11 pm

Hey all:

Got my new beefy spreaders from D&R. I'll call him tomorrow, but just in case I dont' reach him I thought I'd ask the experts here.

Do I locate the mounting brackets so the spreaders are at the exact same height on the mast as the old ones? I assume so, but thought I'd ask just in case there's some ideas about raising or lowering them an inch or so.

Also...assuming I can use the standard 3/16" aluminum rivets...

Thanks,
Carlos

Spreader Placement

Postby Bob Damon » Tue Sep 12, 2006 2:03 pm

Just remember our specifications indicate the spreaders shall be no higher than 7"8" above mast datum within 1 inch outboard of the mast. The hard part is some masts (esp DS II Masts) are not the same overall length so how the spreader affects the mast stability and bend characteristics will vary. Generally unless the current location is way low or way high you are better off just placing them where they were.

Thanks, Bob. I called Rudy and he said, in his wonderfully casual Yankee way, "yeah, just put 'em where the old ones were." Makes sense to me.
