Cutting mast.

Postby Guest » Wed Oct 27, 1999 12:00 am

I want to modify the mast and add the hinge. I understand what to do but I am not sure about cutting the mast in two. I have tried to make a straight cut with a hack saw before with little success. Any suggestions on getting a square, straight cut without taking it to a machine shop?

I am responding to my own email. I had several suggestions but this is how I cut the mast. I used a regular electric miter saw like is used in woodworking. I used a regular carbide tipped blade designed to cut wood. It cut the mast like butter and I had a smooth square cut. Just be sure to support the mast well and get it square against the fence.
