Mast support cracking through forward cabin floor

Postby Guest » Tue Mar 21, 2000 1:00 am

I am a new O'day mariner 19 owner. I really like this little boat. About the second time I was sailing her the mast support broke through the floor in the the little cabin. As I inspected this (what looks like a 1/2 aluminium pipe running at about a 30 degree angle from under the base of the mast to the floor)I noticed that it was cracking through my cabin deck and heading toward the hull. It seems to me that this is a design problem. Whould it be better to bring this support straight down under the mast base to the floor rather than running it at an angle? Is this a factory brace or is it something that someone installed after market? Is this brace necessary? If so is this the acceptable method of repair?

Thanks for any help you may be able to give me on this matter.
Come and sail with me in the caribbean any time
