Hinged Mast Step

Postby Guest » Wed May 31, 2000 12:00 am

I am about to purchase a SPINDRIFT Day Sailer I. It has a hinged mast step. The deck shows cracking around it. It appears to be connected to the deck with four bolts and doesn't appear to be connected to the stub mast at all.

Should I be concerned, and does anyone know of a fix?

Thanks

Tom

If your mast sits on the foredeck and not on the 'stub mast' section below deck I would be very concerned. Somebody must have modified your boat. in high winds there are some serious forces at work- more than the foredeck is designed to handle, I presume...I am using a two-part mast (with a hinge at deck level) and it works well if properly mounted.
