flotation tank joint repair

Postby MrPlywood » Sun Nov 09, 2008 6:29 pm

Due to recent torrential rains and my inability to get to the lake or have someone else look after my DS1, my uncovered boat took on a ton (maybe literally) of water. The cockpit was filled to the top of the seats. The good news is that the forward and starboard tanks are evidently watertight - neither one took on any water despite being practically submerged.

The port tank did take on water, and needs repair along the tank-to-hull seam. I'm thinking the best way to go is to sand down the seam area and re-fiberglass. I'm assuming that the seat/tank is molded with a lip, so I'd be careful to sand just enough to create a good bonding surface.

If anyone else has done this repair and can offer any advice I would appreciate it.

BTW, I have inspection ports and plan to install them along with some noodles or other appropriate flotation.
