O'Day 222

Postby keith » Fri Jan 16, 2009 6:38 pm

We have an O'Day 222 sailboat whichcame equiped with a Johnson Seahorse motor long shaft 8 Hp 65 pounds. The motor has died. We sail on Long Island Sound and have to come into a narrow channel for our dock space. It is prohibited to sail into the channel. We need to have an outboard.

Can I use a much heavier engine such as 4 stroke Honda 8hp weight 117 lbs or Nissan 9.8 hp weight 91.5 lbs without damaging the transom or standard outboard mount on this sailboat?

That is a considerable amount of additional weight. I would contact an O’day dealer or the manufacturer just to be safe. Brad

You might have better luck posting this question on this web site http://oday.sailboatowners.com/ there are many 222 owners there and they will be able to tell you what they've put on there boats.

Or if you can get in touch with Rudy at D&R Marine what ever he says will be gospel.
