DSII Replacement Cam Cleats?

Postby Guest » Tue Aug 01, 2000 8:46 pm

I just bought a 1971 DSII, which is actually in pretty good shape. One annoying problem is that the cam cleats that are supposed to hold the mainsheet are worn smooth, and will slip under even light loads. The jib cleats still have their teeth, but I find them hard to use (too flat on top; hard to convince the jib sheet to go down between the bar and the cam). Does anybody know where I could find replacement cam cleats for the mainsheet and/or better jib cleats? I've looked through the West Marine catalog, but nothing looks close.

I haven't ruled out replacing the whole swivel base unit (whatever it's called). But even if I could find a replacement, I don't know what is backing the four flat head screws that hold the current one on to the top of the centerboard case. I have unpleasant visions of the backing plate falling off after I remove the screws... Has anybody done this?

Thanks for any help.

Peter
