paint -- how much to buy?

Postby Guest » Tue Sep 12, 2000 9:36 am

Folks --

I'm (FINALLY!) ready to repaint my DSI - -it's taken me the better part of a year to get it stripped and sanded. I've got a good estimate of the amount of paint I had to remove, but I don't know how much paint I'm going to need to re-cover the entire hull, all of the interior surfaces, and the entire topsides. Can any of you offer an estimate? Am I looking at quarts or gallons?

Thanks for your help!

Greg,
I used approximately one quart per coat for the hull. I used Petit Easypoxy and it took about three coats. Definitely use the undercoater and it would have been two finish coats.I used the undercoater in the cockpit and it held up ALOT better. It took about 1.5 quarts per coat for the cockpit and cuddy. These are estimates and I am not sure what you are using for paint. Two-part polyurethanes may go farther in coverage? For closer estimates take a tape measure and do a rough calculation for surface area of a box.
