If you don't have/can't get the swaged ball part, this little gizwizzy also works in the keyhole slot of the vang bracket:

Well, Tim, I didn't know such a gizwizzy existed, and $3 is a whole lot better than the $25 ish I'd be spending for the swaged ball/wire set up. Thank you.

Now I just need to get a shopping list for more stuff from Intensity to make better use of the shipping. Halyard cleat and new pintle pin for the sunfish...what else...

Watch out, you're going to be over that $25 limit before you know it :)

Well, if you want to really go big ($$$), two of these have made a huge difference on The Red Witch:

The price for these "Harken #140 Big Bullet Block with Cam Cleat" is really competitive. Most other places sell them for above what Intensity Sails gives as their pre-discount list price.

Tim - my vang plate must be slightly different, as I picked up the laser vang key, and the shaft is just a bit too wide to fit the slot, and the head is just a bit too big to fit in the hole. I may try to file on it a bit to see if I can get it to fit, but I'm concered about weakening it.

I may have to check my local sailing shop to see what options they might have, and my specialty hardware store. Or bite the bullet and get a proper swaged ball set up.

Hmmm ... weird? The one I got fit just fine ... ?

Either I have a different vang plate than you do, or there's a lot of tolerance in the dimensions of that key?

Either way, I'd get it to fit either by filing or whatever. The plate, not the key. The former is stronger than the latter, and after all, it's not a big deal if the vang fails ... ?
