Cracked Mast Hole on Cuddy

Postby Guest » Fri Apr 20, 2001 10:55 am

When I bought my DS1 last year, the mast hole was cracked (actually broken). I don't race, and a little wary of glass, so I sanded down the collar flush with the cuddy top, and mounted 2 plates, one on top and bottom, with SS bolts to hold in place. The plates had a hole cut through them of the profile of the mast. Works like a charm. I used plastic "cutting boards" for the plates.

Sounds like a great repair job! As long as the plates can not be adjusted fore & aft or athwartships (side to side) then your repair should not be a problem if you or any future owner desire to race. The Class Measurement Rules in fact reference the top of the cuddy, not the reinforced "ring" around the mast partner (hole in cuddy top). BTW, I don't race either, but for resale value reasons have tried to not do anything against the Class Rules.
