Anxious for spring

I just wanted to lament that I still have 3 weeks left before I can get my DSII out of winter storage. I've been staring at and fiddling with a box of new jib blocks (Ronstan 40 RTA), Harken cam cleats and some new lines, for more than a month now. I can't do anything else until I get the boat out. It's getting difficult to find patience.

klb, if it's any consolation, this usually happens to me in the middle of Summer, when the T-storms prevent me from "boat tinkering" - that's why I have to get such things done at this time of year ... ;-P

Built a new rudder head and put an inspection port up on the foredeck, but having issues posting pics. Once I get that resolved, I'll post reports on both projects ...

I do boat work this time of year. By June it is too hot to work outside on boats in central Texas. I've also installed an inspection port in my foredeck to get at my bow eye to repair it. I plan to repair backing plates for the cleats as well. Also provides another storage area.

If you'd like a laugh or two to get you through:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss/ ... dictionary

On Amazon used books.

I've read this several times, and I still cackle. A couple of entries:

Bitter end

One of only eight names authorized by the Coast Guard for establishments serving alcoholic beverages in a harbor area. The others are: The Outrigger, the Beachcomber, The Hatch, The Rusty Rudder, The Crow's Nest, The Jolly Roger, and Barnacle Bill's.

Centerboard

Permanently jammed movable keel.

Fitting out

Series of maintenance tasks performed on boats ashore during good-weather weekends in spring and summer months to make them ready for winter storage.

I live in a part of the country where there really isn't winter storage needed. Spring is usually my best time to work on the boat before the heat hits.

Alan,

I couldn't resist and loaded google with the suggested names and scoured for local places. Some of the names do exist around here, but for establishments too far inland to be frequented by the Coast Guard :) But I found another nice nautical name "The Sloop" in Warrington England....
