Stuck Centerboard Fixed?

I careened my boat today on my lawn (after getting my leg pinned between a rolling tractor and the transom  ) and had a look at the centerboard. It took some doing to pull out, and I heard a crack. But after that it was able to go up and down easily. I noticed the up haul strap on the top of the center board was twisted, but after peering in, I couldn't see any damage, cracks or what was holding it. I did see rub marks on the sides and could feel rough spots on the inside of the trunk, so maybe there was crud in there? Paint or something? Maybe the pivot pin was cockeyed? Otherwise, the trunk was very clean, and so was the CB.

Anyway, I hope it's really fixed. I put in down and up several times while the boat was on it's side and marked the wire where the board was just where I wanted it. Next sailing trip, I'll just have to see if I take on water in the bilge. Thoughts?

Read up on the techniques for keeping tension on the slack CB lines so that they can't fall into the trunk and get wedged there. Dozens of posts on that issue.

Yeah, I saw that. But, after mainually pulling it down, it loosened up when I was on the water and jammed again going up, even though I had tension on it.

Now, the board is painted. I suppose the rope or cable could have gotten stuck on some paint inside trunk, and came loose yesterday. Anyway, it goes in and out correctly now.

Do you have the bungee arrangement then that keeps the slack line tensioned?

No, but I'll look into it. DO you have any pictures?

TRW didn't have a bungee, but the red line in this pic shows where it would go. You need a block with a bail on the uphaul cable, and either an eyestrap mounted just aft of the mast step, or you could tie the bungee to the mast. The bungee would be at almost full stretch with the CB down. The idea is to keep tension on the UH at all times, but I just always kept tension on both the UH and downhaul lines when raising or lowering the CB.
