Mast Repair Advice

Postby Guest » Fri Oct 31, 2003 11:12 pm

I have a hole in my Dailsailer III mast where the spreader bracket connects. The hole is right where one of the rivets to connect the bracket that supports the spreader should be. My plan to fix it is to rivet a large aluminim plate that matches the curvature of the mast over the damaged area then reduce the length of the spreader itself by the width of the plate so the run of the rigging isn't affected. Would this would be adequate / structurally sound? I have seen a couple of articles on the net where folks have done this.

Thanks,
Bill

Use thin stainless. It is stronger. Be ware stainless and aluminum do not play well together chemically speaking ei: corrossion. So coat the back side of your plate with paint or rubberized undercoating available at the local auto parts store.
