main jib sheets

Postby calden » Sun May 07, 2006 9:18 am

Hey all:

It's been alluded to in this forum, but I can't quite tell how feasible it is:

I'd like to upgrade my old main and jib sheets. The specs page for this forum indicate 5/16" line. However, in looking at the rope at my local friendly West Marine I see that 3/8" feels a little bit better to handle. I brought home a little sample to see if it would fit through all the relevant blocks. It seems to run through them just fine without binding.

So - is there a good reason NOT to use 3/8" line? Why is it specified to use 5/16"?

Thanks,
Carlos

Easier on the hand, and easier to get. (5/16 is less common)
