spreader vertical movement

Postby calden » Fri Aug 11, 2006 10:58 am

Hey all:

Spreader question -

Should they be loosely attached to the shrouds to allow for vertical movement, or, once adjusted, should they be rigging-taped in position? If the latter is the case, should they be adjusted so each spreader bisects the shroud-to-mast space into two equal angles?

Thanks,
Carlos

The spreaders should angle up a few degrees. What you want is the angles of the shroud to the spreader, above and below the spreader tip to be equal. I found that rigging tape works ok, but eventully lets the tip slip up and down. I use some whipping twine wrapped around the shroud below where I want the tip to stay, Thick enough that the tip can not slip past it. Seems to keep everything where I want it.

Phill:

That's a good tip. They do slide down.

I'm going to try to come down next week, but it depends on family issues. Thanks for the re-invite. I also got a call from Patricia Skeen. Sure seems like everyone's friendly!
