reefing claw

Postby Daniel Westfall » Sun Dec 09, 2007 4:00 pm

This past sailing season I had need to reef my main and with out reefing points or claw, I had to come in on the Jib. Was not much fun.
I then started looking on the internet and they are hard to find and pricey.

Called the only sailboat shop in Indiana (Indianapolis) and asked the guy if handled reefing claws. He said he had heard of them but didn't know what they looked like. I described it to him and he said just a minute he wanted to look at his work bench. Came back and and said he found it (dirty from laying around all these year) and had wondered for a long time what it was and it's use. I said how much and he said $20. I ran up and grab it ASAP. Just the right size for a DSII,

Moral of the story-make a lot of calls and check out used boat yards. They might have what you need and maybe something else. Cheap.
