Spreader ends?

I lost my port spreader on the last sail of the season. In looking for a replacement I noticed that some like my "original" have a plastic out board end with a grove for the wire stay to pass thru, where as some just have a slot cut in the metal. My question is which end is acceptable?

Mine have just the slot.

I think either works - I would be careful that the distance between stay and mast isn't changed.

Secure the end

Another thing to consider is using a 1-2" piece of rigging wire to secure the end of the spreader to the shroud. You simply 'wind' it around the shroud and over the spreader so that it can to move up and down slightly but you won't lose a spreader. You can 'clean up' the end with some rigging tape.
