You could definitely make your own using SS cable, thimbles and oval sleeves from loosnaples.com, but it's the cost of the tool that makes it an expensive proposition. Maybe find a local shop that can do the swaging for you? You might even find a place that does rotary swaging, then you could just use eye/fork ends ... ?

I think I'll just play it safe and buy the stays from D&R; it just pushes my sail purchase further out into the future :(

Well, just think of it this way: new sails do you no good if you have a busticated mast because of a rig failure ... <8~O
