I put a jib d/h on my boat and like it a lot. I think I am going to try to get a bag to put my jib in while hanked on and a main sail cover. I went to the wurstfest regatta and left my boat tied up at the docks over night and sails in place but doused. I would have felt better if they were in covers. Does any one have a pattern??

They make a jib cover that can be put in place while is down and hanked on. I have one that came with my Mariner when I bought it. Don't know where it was purchased by the P.O. however. Sail covers for the mainsail are available as well, those can be found used. I have one my dad gave me when he sold his Catalina 27. It's a little big, but works OK. Since you are live near Canyon Lake, you might try the Sailboat Shop in Austin (Hwy 620 and Hudson Bend Rd), I've seen used ones there. Bartlett Sails is just a couple miles up on Hudson Bend Rd., they can make them or may have used ones that will work.

When at anchor, I'll simply gather up the (still hanked on) jib into a mesh bag with a drawstring closure. Keeps it in a neat bundle on the foredeck even if the wind is howling. For the main, I take the slugs out of the slot, but leave the foot on the boom, then roll up the sail and secure it to the boom with the reef line.

Thanks John. I have met and talked with John Bartlett. I may try to get something going with him. sail care advertised making them, but they told me they quit doing it.

OK John Thanks. I went thru Dripping springs the other day.

I use parachute cord, (my Granddaughter likes to make survival bracelets so I have spools of it) I tied a bowline at on both ends, One gets locked in at the head of the sail and the other goes around the aft starboard deck cleat after I reeve it through the jib hanks and through the center base of the starboard bow deck cleat.
This was going to be a temporary set up to see if I liked it. The plan was to purchase and mount turning blocks and fairleads to make it look proper and yachty. It works just fine as is and cost about $3.00. Makes dowsing the headsail a breeze when single handing.

While blocks cut friction, that's not the biggest concern in this kind of downhaul. After all, instead of fighting gravity you would be assisting it. I must say, I like jury rigs that can't be improved upon.
