Connecting both uphaul and downhaul to spinnaker pole

My pole only has one eyestrap, how do I connect both uphaul and downhaul?

I use a snapshackle. I tied both up and downhaul to the shackle with a "halyard hitch" on each line. Relatively compact and I can easily take the pole off and lay it under my side bench. Then I just clip the shackle to the spinnaker ring on the mast and pull on the downhaul to stow the lines against the mast. When it's 'chute time, just clip the pole to the mast and the shackle to the pole and off we go!

Why use two when one will do? Just my thinking, besides buying extra shackles cuts into my beer money....

Do you mean like this? Image

Is it not a bit awkward to have two lines pulling opposite directions from the same side of the pole?

Yes, like that. No, not awkward, the snapshackle gives the lines a bit of separation from the pole, just like in your photo, so nothing gets tangled. For what it may be worth, I don't use an uphaul line, instead I have a bungee cord to pull the pole up. I calibrated the length to just hold the weight of the pole + angle it upwards 20ish degrees. Works well for me. Only one line to pull (downhaul) and if I slack it off then the pole raises about as high as I'd ever want it.

Single eyestrap - check

Bungee for uphaul - check

Life is good - waiting for 2020 to end :D
