rigging jib sheets

Postby Guest » Wed Sep 24, 2003 10:47 pm

I just came into possesion of a 1967 DS1, and am new to sailing. I have all the rigging right, I think, but one question. When I got the boat (from someone who sailed her for 20 years), the jib sheets were rigged outside the mast stays. Should they be inside the mast stays? I took her out the other day and had trouble getting the jib set right, after moving them inside the stays.

Inside the stays. On a larger boat the jibsheets are usually run outside the sidestays, but the small O'Days run them inside the stays.

Run the sheets inside the shrouds. A neat trick for singlehanding: tie the ends together so
you don't lose the lee side in the bottom of the boat when you tack, just tug on the one
continuous jib sheet.
