Cleaning Sails

Postby Stusan96 » Thu Sep 13, 2007 12:24 pm

Does anyone know how to get rust stains out of sails? We just bought the boat and not sure what happened to the sails, but they have rusty stains on them somehow. Thanks.

There's a product called "Whink":

This stuff is great. Put a few drops on the rust stain and let it sit a few minutes, then rinse well with water. No scrubbing, no bleach, no acetone. I found it after trying a bunch of unsuccessful things.

Available at various hardware stores and supermarkets, but not everywhere, so you might have to call around.

Cleaning sails

Is there a proper way to clean sails. What is the proper solution to use to get the dirt off and make them white and new like. Mine are not bad but have never been cleaned as far as I know.

last night i stuck my nasty ill-stored (for 11 years) sails in a tub of oxy clean and a little bleach to soak overnight. i just finished pressure washing my sails with a gentle nozzle piece, applied some whink rust remover and they LOOK GOOD AS NEW!
