leech line on main

I sent my main sail off to be cleaned and re resined at sail care. I was sailing the other day with it and it was poping a little in the gust. I went to tighten the leech line a little and there was not one. I can't remember if it had one befor I sent it off or not, since I had not sailed it for some years before. Do most main sails on DSII have a leech line on the main?

Thanks
Salty Dog

My new Intensity main doesn't have one. I don't recall my Neil Pryde main having one.

My Neil Pryde main has one, but I've never fiddled around with it much ...

... I can't imagine that they would have just removed yours (salty dog) without asking?

Ye.h Mine may have never had one. It is a Neil Pryde also. I thought it might have been taken out to repair my batten pockets and forgot to put it back in. But most of the time if there is a leech line there is a small plastic cleat at the bottom for adjusting and mine does not have one.
I was just thinking it was part of the sail and they all had one. the only time I ever adjusted one was when my sail was popping on the edge. Sounds kinda like when you put a playing card on your bicycle wheel with a cloth pin and let the spokes hit it so you sound like a motorcycle. :D

Was just looking at my main, and the ends of the batten pockets are indeed involved with the leech line channel, but only for an inch or so at each one of the four, so complete removal of it would hardly be necessary. Plus, as you say, you'd have the cleat too ...

I guess whenever the main is flogging, I just honk on more vang, and it stops! ;-P

At the time the leech was popping my sail was in good trim. It only did it during a gust. and then it only involved about an inch of the outer edge of the leech between the battens. I was close haul when it was happening and I usually do not use the vang on that point of sail. It could be my sail is too stretched out and I need a new one. I hate to think that since I spent 75% enough to buy a new one having it cleaned and repaired. My main sheet is at half boom and I can see a bow in the boom when sheeted hard. I don't know if this could be an argument for end of boom sheeting or not.

Adjustable leech lines would appear more common on larger boats. My Jotz sails don't have one. Salty, how old are your sails?

My jib is new and it has a leech line but my main is original.

There obviously comes a time when a sail is worn out. I'm convinced that much sail cleaning is done too late in the life cycle of a sail. Hate to say it but that might have been the case for you.

Neither my Intensity sails nor my OEM Neil Pryde sails have a leech line.

My mainsail made by Z-Sails, has two leach lines, one for above the reef point and one below, though I've never adjusted them. It doesn't take much tension on a leech line to change the buzzing leach. I don't think that it would cost much to have one installed, if the sail is in good enough shape otherwise.

It looks like most DSII sails do not have one and that is what I was wondering. AS to if I needed to find out what happened to mine or if It never had one.

Thanks a lot for the input

Well then: maybe next time my mains'l's abuzz, I'll loose the vang, then reach out and give that gizwizzy a tug! :D

Don't be tugging on your gizwizzy while your sailing, It could be dangerous.
