Slugs?

As Ive been restoring old boats for a fairly short time, Im now getting around to sails.

My DS2 has slugs in the luff..but the previous owner apparently sailed it loose footed when the bolt rope disintergrated. Ive the same issue with the entire sail on my Venture 224.

Im asking for opinions as to what type of slug attachment I should use.

http://www.sailrite.com/Screw-on-Plasti ... escription

Are these adequate for a DS2 AND a Venture 24 (sails are about the same size..boat weight is far far different.

Or should I put in grommets and bit the bullet and get the grommet tool etc etc. The DS2 has old nylon slugs tied into the grommets with line. Seems to work ok, but will take some time tying each one in. I dont have a "heavy duty" sewing machine..just your basic Sears machine so using webbing may not be easily done.
Both sails are "ok" but trying to put the least amount of stress on them would probably be best. Any ideas, suggestions, etc etc would be greatly appreciated.

I assume that 5/16" slugs are proper for the DS2 and 3/8 (or 1/2"?) for the Venture 224?

Thanks!

Gunner - all your links go to the overview page on Picasa. It's effectively not possible to know which image you want us to look at.

slugs.....I think 3/8" will work for the Oday and 1/2" for the V24.

Now should I use those screw in slug holders in the first post...or set up with grommets?

Are Sailrite good ones or is there another cheaper source for slugs and whatever I need?

Thanks

Not odd at all. Try it from a browser that you have not yet used to log in to the image hosting service to see how this works for others.

On your recommendation, I tried a total of 3 other browsers. Opera, Chrome, InternetExploder

All gave me the links to click on and when I did..took me right to them.

Wazup wid dat?

Now about the original question?

If I install slugs..do I use one of the sail rite screw in gizmos to hold the slugs, or do I put in grommets?

See the Sail Doctor column in the May/June issue of Small Craft Advisor. He is not fond of the screw in gizmos.

The article is in the current issue of the magazine, so it might not yet be available online. SCA does offer both digital and paper subscriptions. It's available on the newsstand at Books-a-Million. The website has downloadable PDF files of back issues. It's a great magazine and highly recommended. Be sure to take the SCA Seaworthiness Test. http://smallcraftadvisor.com/
