Battens

Postby James4 » Mon Aug 07, 2023 12:43 am

Hi-- I'm taking my sails off the boat, rolling them up, and storing them between sails. I've been taking the battens out each time. It's a tight fit and a little difficult to get them in. Any opinions on whether this is necessary? Thanks for any ideas. Jim

Easy answer: it is not.

Just roll your sails so that they are parallel to the battens (no twist in the batten) and all is fine.

I don't even remove my sail from the boom any longer, I just make a roll next to the boom and put both under a tarp while not sailing. The less a sail is handled, the longer it will live is my understanding of this. (And I really like to reduce the time spent rigging...)
