I just bought 1984 day sailer. It was capsized and the mast broken at the spreader location. Can it be welded and be safe for just recreational sailing? I'm a novice and looking for a fun boat for my grown "kids"

A new bare mast is available from D&R marine for $395. If the boat was in good enough condition to purchase Im sure that the price was adjusted enough to allow for the purchase of a new mast? Rudy highly recommmends upgrading to 1/8' wire from the original 3/16. He said that the rigs fail frequently because of the undersized wire. He even specs the current production widgeons with 1/8. For $140 complete he includes new turnbuckles that wont loosen when the boat is on the mooring.
