Yet another centerboard question

Postby Baxter » Thu Jul 05, 2007 4:14 pm

Hi all, I'm the new owner of 1976 DSII 8184. First let me say thanks to all who post and reply to questions, you've been a valuable source of information and have helped me a lot.
Here's my question, can someone post a picture of an actual DSII centerboard raising/lowering scheme, just what's above deck and inside the cuddy is fine. I've seen a lot of DS pics and even the line drawings and am having a time figuring it out. The previous I think had something break or tried to fix it but didn't finish. I notice in some drawings there's a block or an eyestrap attached to the top inside of the cuddy but I can't figure it out. I have all the wire and line attached to the CB but everything is loose, no eyestraps anywhere nor do I have the shockcord attached.
Also I notice a little SS tang with a hole in it attached to the outside top of the cuddy, does this work with the CB? One more thing I have 2 holes on the starboard side of the outside cuddy bulkhead where something was but no longer is, any clue if it was from the factory?
Thanks a lot!

Here are some pictures that may be of assistance. E-mail me at roger02@mts.net and I can send you a bunch more.

The downhaul is the line that runs through the top hole in the bulkhead, then around a series of blocks to the cuddy roof and down through the top hole of the forward CB trunk.

The uphaul runs through the bottom hole of the bulkhead, along the cuddy floor, to a block, then back through the bottom hole of the forward CB trunk.

If you have the line drawing, the pictures will make a bit more sense, but I have a number more of each individual block series for detailed rigging.

As for your holes in the cuddy, If they are where I think they are. My old DSII had a compass there. That could also be the explanation for that tang at the top of your cuddy cabin.

Thanks guys, I think I know why I was so confused. I am missing 2 blocks.
I have the wire ending with a block wrapped around some shock cord and one other block next to it. I might post a pic this afternoon. Thanks Roger I might take you up on the extra pics.
And hey J.P. does anyone near you or in your club race or have
interlake 18's?
Thanks again guys.

Yes, we race, so does the Interlake 18 feet here. We had our annual regatta June 2nd. We also race most Sundays, and will have a holiday series regatta for Labor Day Weekend. We have a standing social gathering on Friday nights, where we do daysailing, informal racing practice, and usually have a pot-luck dinner. If you want to come down and join us you are most welcome. PM me if you are interested and I'll send you my phone number and directions.
