DS II Centerboard

Postby Tim » Thu Aug 23, 2007 7:40 am

Can anyone enlighten me on the steps that should be taken when removing and replacing the centerboard from an 84' daysailer II? (FYI, this CB is held in place by two metal plates accessible from the hull.) I'm particularly interested what kind of epoxy or sealant should be used with the screws, if any, when re-assembling the whole system.

silicone

silicone on the screws is your best bet. It will allow future removal, yet prevent water ingress. Coat the screw threads, and place some under the head before inserting screw. Don't seat the screw completely until the silicone had cured, then do the last 1/8 turn.

So it is possible that water will come in through the screws without the sealant?
